Burachu after Maariv
Why don’t we say Burachu after Maariv
Many ask why we do not help the latecomers by repeating burachu after davening like they do in other shuls? In fact, we do have that minhog at Shacharis before the repetition the latecomer or a mourner on his behalf says kaddish and Borachu as mentioned in the Rema 69 but he adds that this is done only at shacharis because the latecomer missed not only Burachu but more importantly the kaddish after Yishtabach. The Mishna Brura there says that the kaddish before Burachu of Maariv is only a later minhog unlike the kaddish by shacharis which is an early minhog kadmonim.
In addition, the Beis Yosef there mentions some opinions who say that it is blasphemous if one says Burachu when no one follows up by saying the Brocho of shema. Although the Darkei Moshe disagrees with this the Drisha does uphold this view comparing it to Birchas hamozon where if one says Nevarech it is not enough to just answer Baruch sheachalnu but it is necessary to listen to the entire first brocho and he is yotzei (in that its not blasphemous) , so the same applies for Maariv if no one says the Brocho we should definitely not repeat Burachu.
It seems that it is in accordance with this, that we also do not answer Baruch hu uvaruch shemo on the Torah blessings of the one who gets an aliya although we do answer to the chazan in birchos hashachar. Because the Ole says first Burachu and we must be yotzei with his bracha so that it will not be like blasphemy. (See Mishna Brura 124:21)
